Mount Catherine — Wednesday, Jul. 13, 2022

Snoqualmie Region > Snoqualmie Pass
Tahoma and blooming heather

Decided to take advantage of this cloudless day and hike up to Mt. Catherine for some views — was not anticipating the clouds of mosquitos, though! Yikes, haven't seen mosquitos this thick outside of India. Could only spend about 10 minutes at the summit because I was getting eaten alive even after drowning myself in high-deet bug spray and no breeze to help me out. You might consider sitting this one out for a couple of weeks to let the mosquito bogs dry up, or choose a windy day!

Otherwise it was a nice hike! Still a couple very small patches of snow but easily crossed. Also some muddy patches but again, no big issue. There's lots of loose rock and tree roots on the trail so I was happy to have my poles but overall the trail is in good condition.

I would say the road is at the upper limit of what a low-clearance vehicle can handle. The worst part is a section of muddy potholes that you could potentially get stuck in. I think a brave and careful driver could probably navigate it OK, but use your best judgement.
