Summary: Road is full of potholes in places and we saw a VW Golf lose its oil due to hitting surface rocks. Other than that, the road is how the road always is. Hike was good. Lots of snow to cross. We didn't use poles or spikes and made it fine (51y dad, 17y daughter). The trail can be hard to find in the snow from time to time, so be aware of tracks as you cross. You'll encounter a few snow bridges; they were all stable for us. There is some water on the trail and some trail-swamps in places due to melt but nothing impassable. All in all a good hike.
