Road to th has a ton of potholes, not too deep though, it took us 20 minutes for a 3 mile on forest road.
Toilet just got serviced, very clean, had tp.
Trail was in very good condition, no poles needed.
Park lot was full, but we didn’t see many people on the trail.
Berries are ripen.
Flowers are blooming.
A nice day out in the forest.

First waterfall is at 1.5 miles, second is at 2.5 miles which makes for a nice 5 mile out-and-back.
The road in is indeed very pothole-y. I personally wouldn't attempt it in a low-clearance vehicle but I saw a couple sedans at the trailhead so it must be possible!
Had no trouble finding parking on a weekday and only passed a handful of groups. There is no toilet at the trailhead but there is a clean, well-stocked vault toilet on the road a couple miles before the trailhead.
Lots of wildflowers and ripe (!!!) blueberries at around 2 miles. Very enjoyable hike on a beautiful summer day.

The access road needs a lot of work. Would recommend only high clearance vehicles due to severe potholes for the entire length of the road (FSR2010000). I wrote to the Forest Service to ask when they are going to re-grade it but only did so before doing this write-up.
The two falls are impressive. One is within the first third of the hike, and the other is maybe at about the midpoint. I would call the last half of the trail as the "Segment of seemingly interminable beauty". It was beautiful but there was nothing to see and I found it kind of boring. So, I made some observations to help pas the time:
As of 6/19/24 when I hiked, water was still running fairly well off the hillside.
After the upper falls, there are 18 creeks that need to be crossed before you reach the end of the trail. The creekbed immediately across from the upper falls was dry, so the counting starts from there. I'm defining a creek as something that requires two or more steps to cross and you can hear the water running.
When the trail crosses one of the last creeks, it traverses a large rock/erratic before heading back into the woods. I would say this is the 3/4 point of the trail.
While I did the hike in running shoes, there are enough muddy spots that in any wetter weather I would recommend hiking shoes or boots.
The late spring vegetation was overgrowing the trail in spots, but crews have obviously been working on clearing.
The end of the trail was a decent clearing, but no views other than the river itself. There were few insects noticed except in the parking lot.

Road to the trailhead is rougher than I remember, but I was able to make it in a sedan. Dodged rain showers for the most part, the waterfalls are probably at/near peak flow. I hiked in to about the 3.5 mile mark where the brush got heavy. I decided this was a good turn around spot and this was good timing as it did start to rain a bit. It is obvious that trail matinence crews have been hard at work recently thank you to all the WTA volunteers and USFS trail matinence crews!

Once I was about half way along French Creek Road (FR-2010) I was wondering if it was worth it. The road is terrible again as I eased in and out of potholes at 2-3 mph. I was okay but cautious in a CR-V but a sedan would have to be very careful.
Of the noticeable changes on the trail is that the huge landmark tree that was slanted across the trail is now gone (see before and after photos) . Just a pile of sawed wood beside the trail.
It was a good time to see all the waterworks as the river is at near full volume as are the falls along the trail. The trail was a waterwork as well. There were streams across the trail I had never seen before. In general the trail is in good condition-seasonal mud in places and the water that could mostly be avoided. I went as far as Meditation Falls and had lunch there overlooking the river and the fall on the opposite side. Along with the usual noise of the water movement it also made a strange hissing sound.
There were not many flowers out. The trillium and bleeding hearts were spent but there were some nice groups of bunch berries along the trail. I didn't have any issues with bugs but the slight breeze may have helped keep them away. I only met one other hiker on the trail.
