Once I was about half way along French Creek Road (FR-2010) I was wondering if it was worth it. The road is terrible again as I eased in and out of potholes at 2-3 mph. I was okay but cautious in a CR-V but a sedan would have to be very careful.
Of the noticeable changes on the trail is that the huge landmark tree that was slanted across the trail is now gone (see before and after photos) . Just a pile of sawed wood beside the trail.
It was a good time to see all the waterworks as the river is at near full volume as are the falls along the trail. The trail was a waterwork as well. There were streams across the trail I had never seen before. In general the trail is in good condition-seasonal mud in places and the water that could mostly be avoided. I went as far as Meditation Falls and had lunch there overlooking the river and the fall on the opposite side. Along with the usual noise of the water movement it also made a strange hissing sound.
There were not many flowers out. The trillium and bleeding hearts were spent but there were some nice groups of bunch berries along the trail. I didn't have any issues with bugs but the slight breeze may have helped keep them away. I only met one other hiker on the trail.
