I finally made my way out to Lower Lewis Falls today! It's just a short hike from the parking area. The falls were beautiful! Unfortunately for my photos, the sun came out while I was there and the glare on the water ruined what would have been some amazing photos. I guess that means that I'll just have to come back! This seems like a great place to camp!
As a note, I really wanted to write this trip report to warn others that there is a 1/2 mile section of the Forest Service Road 90 that is unpaved and has some pretty big potholes and steep-ish areas. The 4x4 truck ahead of me on the way out seem to get stuck and spin his wheels before finally getting free going up a steep little hill. I made it without any problems in my little Mazda 3. Hopefully other's won't be taken by surprise like I was!

Left home a little too late to complete the hike so instead we drove down to the Lower Lewis Falls campground which has direct access to the falls through a small 5 minute trail. It was beautiful, about 74 degrees, clear skies. Water is COLD but tolerable. The river current was a little bit strong so children and dogs should be cautious and held tightly. Overall, what a beautiful sight.
NOTE: just a few miles down the road from the lower falls campground area, there is a panoramic viewpoint of Mount Hood that is absolutely worth stopping for! I've included a picture :)

We arrived Thursday evening and found a good spot to camp overnight. The campground is wonderful: lush green everywhere, ground well maintained, the sound of the roaring falls nearby. It rained a little bit but nothing too serious, fortunately the night wasn’t too cold. We awoke bright and early Friday morning and set out on the trail. The trail was clear and well maintained, no obstacles, no bugs, no mud, lush green all around, it was great. The falls were breathtaking we hiked up to the middle falls. Sadly we were running short on time so we couldn’t make it to the upper falls but plan on returning soon to make it to the top.

Easy overnight at Upper Falls. There's 1 really good camp site on the riverbank in sight of Upper Falls, and 1 other site too close to the trail. This was a good base to explore further up river. Day hikers disappeared by 5pm and we had this beautiful place to ourselves!

This is an excellent hike. The waterfalls are really spectacular, especially in the spring with so much water in the river. I really enjoyed the peaceful hike through second and old growth forest, especially towards the upper stretches of the trail. All three water falls are unique and worth visiting, and there is a bonus fourth falls located above the upper falls. If you want a longer hike, I recommend continuing up the Lewis River Trail to the Quartz Creek Trailhead. From there, you can continue hiking along Quartz Creek through beautiful ancient forests. This is a great springtime hike.
