The creek crossing is blocked due to heavy flow from the river for the lower level trail. This is not the 2400 ft climb trail. The lower level trail is blocked and most likely won't be passable halfway in for another month due to the heavy flooding that has occurred in Central Wa this winter.

Not sure how useful this trip report will be for people, but I figured I'd tack onto a report from a few days ago. I'm writing this under Umtanum Creek Canyon, but realistically this only shares the parking lot. Once you cross the bridge, double back over the train tracks to the slope to the right hand side when looking from the parking lot. You'll see two narrow dirt trails leading up to the top. These are the route I took. Going up I followed the track to the right. It's dicey in some places, particularly with how steep it gets at certain points and the footing isn't solid since it's a combination of dirt and loose rocks. Poles are definitely recommended. You'll gain around 800 feet in half a mile. The wind steadily increased as a I ascended; at the top it was doing its best to push me over (my tripod was no match). I didn't see anybody else at the top. I didn't have much of a goal so I wandered in circles, took a number of pictures, and had some lunch -- you could easily walk for miles back up the canyon, but the wind put a damper on my physical exertion. In any case, I'd definitely recommend going up and taking in the views! On the way back I took what was the left hand trail of the two. Poles even more recommended on this trail! If I were to do it again, I probably would have gone back out the way I came in (not that it was much better). I slipped a few times and tried to traverse down the grass when possible. All in all, I only covered a few miles but it was an interesting perspective that most people miss!

Headed over to this hike for the first time. Crossed the bridge and over the rail road tracks and searched for trail entrance. A little hard to find at first, main trail is slightly left after you cross the train tracks. Trailhead is currently flooded about 4-5 inches high of snowmelt for about 100 ft. We went ahead and waddled through it water cleared up but very muddy through the entire hike. No wildlife spotted except for a couple of eagles flying high overhead. Waterfalls are beautiful at this time with all the snow melting. Searched for petrified wood as there is an abundance in this area. Hiked to the end of the trail with very little difficulty. Will be returning when wildflowers start to bloom.

The creek is flooding and trail is underwater. The trail north of the creek along the railroad is accessible but beware as it's steep.

Stopped by for a short hike at Umtanum Creek Canyon on our way to Ellensburg for the Back Country Horsemen of Washington Rendezvous. This is such a lovely area, I have been here many times and never get tired of it. The creek was running pretty high and we weren't able to make it more than a mile or so before we were stymied by a challenging creek crossing. This may become less of an issue as the dryer summer weather sets in, but between the large numbers of visitors and erosion from the wet, endless winter it's clear this trail is going to need some attention. Fortunately we had time to head up the ridge a ways and that trail is in pretty good condition. This is a great time to visit Umtanum Canyon and Ridge, while there still wildflowers and before the summer heat sets in.
