Stopped by for a short hike at Umtanum Creek Canyon on our way to Ellensburg for the Back Country Horsemen of Washington Rendezvous. This is such a lovely area, I have been here many times and never get tired of it. The creek was running pretty high and we weren't able to make it more than a mile or so before we were stymied by a challenging creek crossing. This may become less of an issue as the dryer summer weather sets in, but between the large numbers of visitors and erosion from the wet, endless winter it's clear this trail is going to need some attention. Fortunately we had time to head up the ridge a ways and that trail is in pretty good condition. This is a great time to visit Umtanum Canyon and Ridge, while there still wildflowers and before the summer heat sets in.
