We hiked the network of roads at the base of Hex Mountain for a couple of hours today. There are many intersections and choices you can take and all the roads are in good hiking shape. There are some places where you get beautiful views of Lake Cle Elum and the ridge of the French Cabin area above the lake. It was a bluebird day today and we had lunch in a nice sunny spot checking out the view.We saw no other people in the area although we did hear gunshots for a while.

Hiked to the top of Hex Mountain yesterday. My first time doing this without snow and it was a bit disappointing. The snow makes this hike beautiful. There are a lot of burned trees that look lovely in the winter. The views of Rainier and Lake Cle Elum were great from the top. I recommend Gaia or some other gps device, since the trail starts on some confusing dirt roads and there are a number go intersections. A good place to park is across from the fire station and walk to the trail head on the road, past the house with the scary dogs. I believe they are fenced in since we heard them, but they didn't attack. Again the trail is not very straight forward, so bring your GPS.

A beautiful hike!  We started off about 9 am - 29 degrees under sunny skies. The forest road consisted of frozen hoar frosted mud and patches of ice. When we turned onto the trail by the large Hex Mt sign there was a clear boot path through old snow - maybe 2-4 inches deep - very helpful in finding the way around several large fallen trees. No larches here, instead - ice trees! Forests of trees covered in ice, ice encased grasses too - so pretty in the sun. We put on spikes at about the 2 mile mark and used poles, too. Views at the top were great: Stuart, Rainier and the clouds over Lake Cle Elum had finally lifted. On our way down, as the temperature rose the ice on the trees began to melt and we were showered by icy pellets. The forest road thawed and became very muddy. We were back at the car around 2 pm - never saw another soul for the whole hike!

This was our first time at Hex Mt when it was not covered in snow. I am really drawn to the area because of the views at the peak as well as the dramatic scenery along the way caused by a fire that ripped through the area in 2017.

The trail is easy to follow, however there are many downed trees along the way. Also you can see that many other damaged trees are ready to collapse. Care should be taken especially on a windy day~ which is most of the days up at Hex.

Terrain is rough with many rocks along the way. Steady incline with a final push to the top.

Hunters were in the area and we could see them off in the distance. So be sure to stick to the trail, make noise along the way and wear bright colors.

Happy trails!

Hot. This trail is pretty exposed so wearing long breathable clothing is a must during this time of year. We passed the forest road twice. There wasn't a sign indicating it was a forest road. There was a backhoe parked in a lot off of the road when we went. The gate is no more then 200' off of the main road. Using google maps should get you there though. It's kind of a barren hike but has some nice views. We were the only hikers on the trail, so a mountain biker and a dirt biker along the road. There are some pretty flowers near the top, the berries were not ripe.
