Little River — Sunday, Jan. 12, 2020

Olympic Peninsula > Northern Coast
Log bridges to cross

I was wary of the snow forecast for the weekend but still wanted to get out, so my friend and I had a weekend adventure in the low elevation forests of the Olympics. Saturday we did Gold Creek Trail (see separate trip report), then we stayed the night in Port Angeles and did Little River Trail on Sunday. We found quite a few winter chanterelles in both spots, and enjoyed two days of peaceful hiking in complete solitude (not even one other hiker on either of the trails we did).

For Little River Trail:

- Road was snow free, and only a 15 minute drive from Port Angeles. Discover pass needed to park.

- There was an on and off light and peaceful snow fall most of the day, but it didn't start sticking until a couple miles in, and then only about an inch on the trail at the deepest spot we saw (we only got maybe 4 miles into the trail before turning around, though)

- Several blowdowns to navigate over or under, some mud and water running over trail, and several log bridges to cross back and forth over the river, but nothing I would call particularly troublesome.

Absolutely beautiful and under-rated spot!
