Trip Report

Copper Creek Hut Snowshoe — Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020

Mount Rainier Area > SW - Longmire/Paradise

Copper Creek Hut Trailhead is located on 278th on National Park Hwy. Heading east past Elbe, it is known as the Elbe Hills to locals and part of a shared road with OTV.

We drove in 4-wheel low up to the lower parking lot currently in use. It was nicely plowed with enough room for 8 vehicles if you back in. Parking also available on the side of the road. Chains are recommended. Snow Park permit must clearly be displayed on window or dash of vehicle.

This is strictly XC or snowshoe hut system. Snowshoers need to stay to the side of the groomed trails. Both XC skis and snowshoes can be rented in Ashford.

Garmin recorded the trip as 13.24 miles on snowshoes.

Be prepared with 10 essentials, extra food, layers of clothing, chains, shovel and respectful of the XC culture by remaining on the side of the groomed path while snowshoeing. Trees often fall across both the trail and road.
