There's nothing like a trip to the arboretum when you need a little hint of Spring! The winter garden is winding down, just a few of the late season bloomers to be seen. Even as these wind down, the signs of renewal are everywhere. Some of the earliest rhododendrons and camellias are beginning to open up, lovely splashes of color to chase away the "gray sky blues". In the northwest native section flowering currants, indian plum, and mahonias are all starting to bloom. Flowering cherry trees, the traditional harbingers of spring, are still a few weeks away from full pastel profusion, but there are soft pink clouds of the early types floating among the evergreens.
Along the Foster and Marsh Island loop, the birds are preparing for the change of season as well. Red-wing blackbirds, kinglets, wrens and chickadees are polishing up their courtship songs. Hummingbirds are guarding the best feeding spots around the upcoming spring blooms. Ducks, mergansers, buffleheads and other water birds are beginning to pair up.
Yep, Spring is coming to Seattle =D

lol, I think my anticipation for the arrival of spring got me out of the rather dry and objective reports I usually post. So looking forward to fresh new green and blue skies! =D
