Trip Report

East Bank Baker Lake — Sunday, Mar. 8, 2020

North Cascades > North Cascades Highway - Hwy 20

Spent a night at the Noisy Creek campground on the East Bank Baker Lake trail. Despite the cold, wet weather the trip was enjoyable and relaxing. Only saw eight other people on the trail during my hike in and out, and was the only person at the campground - which was surprising since it was a Saturday night.

Trail conditions: Overall, the East Bank trail was in good shape. There were quite a few places with branches and debris over the trail, but nothing impassable - a few took a bit of navigating, especially with a backpack. Even with the wet weather, the trail wasn't too muddy, and all the creeks were easily passable. Take caution on the boardwalks when wet - the uneven logs are very slippery!

I also took a brief detour up the Noisy Creek trail - this trail climbs steeply up the hill next to Noisy Creek. The trail was a bit treacherous and slippery in the steep sections, and even difficult to see in places because of fallen branches and overgrown moss. It's a worthwhile detour (if you ditch you backpack first) to see some huge old-growth trees.
