Trip Report

Packwood Lake — Tuesday, May. 26, 2020

South Cascades > Goat Rocks

Parking/Road Conditions:

The road is completely paved with some potholes and bumpy spots. The parking lot is also paved and has a bathroom. There is a $5 fee envelope for those who don’t have passes.

Trail conditions:

We started the hike at 11am on a weekday and wasn’t crowded at all. The trail has 28 fallen trees (yes I counted lol) on the trail. Most of the trees are easy to walk over and some trees require some work to climb over. The trail is very muddy in most places. The trail meanders through the forest and can be boring for some but you arrive at the lake pretty quickly. We arrived at 12:36 and I’m considered a slow sloth hiker. The lake was very stunning! And a nice ranger was there to greet us and happy to answer any questions. We learned that this lake was once a resort.

We explored around and walked passed the bridge with the stunning teal river. We set up our hammocks and at some lunch. Beautiful place to just relax. We left the lake at 2:18 and arrived back at the car at 4pm. On the hike back out we saw Rainier through the trees.

Quick Summary:

Very muddy trail

28 trees fallen on trail

Paved road

Boring trail but stunning lake
