We followed the trail as described on this site rather than the one hiked by bjmarra, except for some reason I can no longer remember, we decided to do the loop counter-clockwise.
Our hike through the canyon was lovely with lots of mock orange blooming. This part of the hike was worth it for the smell alone! Lush vegetation starting to encroach on the trail in a few spots, but easily passable.
We found the trail on the right leading up to the ridge easily enough well-marked by cairns. Footing was a bit sketchy in spots but we made it to the top and congratulated ourselves on getting through the hard part!
The trail along the ridge is a little more difficult to follow. Less vegetation up there means that the difference between trail and not-trail is less, plus with all the rocks, you can't see that far ahead. At one spot, the trail disappeared at a rock outcropping and it took us a while to figure out it went between a gap in the rocks.
Then we came to the part where we had to descend from the ridge back to the trailhead. The trail covers about 1500ft of elevation gain in one straight-down mile! No switchbacks, nothing to hold on to, and gravelly tread that doesn't stay still under your feet!
We loved this hike - the variation and views of both canyon and ridge were amazing even on our cloudy, rainy day! But when we do it again, we will go up the canyon, take the trail up to the saddle and hike along the ridge to point 3582, and then turn around and return the same way!
If you decide to do the loop, definitely do it clockwise.
