Got to the traihead at 8:30am and only a handful of cars. Seemed they were doing Iron Bear. We headed to do the loop for Miller Peak along with one other group. There were some stream crossings in the first couple miles while you are down by the creek. They were not too bad but waterproof boots were nice. Was a bit muddy in spots but nothing too bad. After this there are no more water sources - we packed in everything and extra since we had a dog.
We fully summited Miller Peak which adds an extra 1.25 miles to this hike mind you. We saw a mountain goat at the tops of the peak which was cool!. We spent a good amount of time there after a long climb.
At noon we headed back down to the intersection with the county line trail and went under and over the saddle. We headed under Miller Peak and wrapped all the way around. We made up a lot of time on this part. Then we got to the steep sections. Short but steep, and hot AF - after this you hit some sweet sweet shade.
We topped out at Iron Bear Peak and hung out there for a good 20 mins or so and soaked in the sweet views. Only a couple people at the top. Afterwards we went down and turned right at the intersection to take the Iron Bear trail back to the parking lot. DO NOT TURN LEFT HERE.
We ran into two hikers that came from Teanaway Ridge Trail for the peak and accidentally took Iron Bear trail back - we drove them back to their car - mind you that's 30 mins away :)
All in All we clocked about 14.25 miles and 4100 feet today.
