Trip Report

Mount Si — Thursday, Jul. 2, 2020

Snoqualmie Region > North Bend Area

Had been planning to hike Si today because the forecast showed some sun but woke up to gray clouds and wind in Seattle! Decided to brave the weather anyway and arrived at a mostly empty trailhead around 8:00AM. There were quite a lot of very large potholes in the parking lot but the bathrooms were open which was nice. Hit the cloud line around 2,000ft and was totally socked in at the top. The last mile or so was quite cold on an overcast day - I was glad I packed gloves, especially while descending! No bugs at the top and less trash than I was expecting too (both great surprises!) I only passed about 10 hikers on my way up but maybe 50 or 60 on my way down between 11:00AM and 12:00PM. If you've never hiked this trail before I would definitely suggest waiting for a sunny day so you can enjoy the views from the top and so you can sit and enjoy lunch at the summit without being too cold. Otherwise, it's hard to beat just how uncrowded this trail is on an overcast weekday morning - and the clouds make for some nice spooky ambiance :)
