For first timers like me on this trail, it can be a sensory overdose. The stark remains of forest fire, right after 2miles into the trail, amid blooming wildflowers is a a surreal experience. The trees shine silver and black in sunlight while the understory, now fully exposed to sun, is riots of colors - starting out with bear grass at lower elevation, giving way to lupines and occasional paintbrush and arnica as we climb higher. Closer to ridge, it a yellow carpet of glacier lilies. On reaching the ridge, the eastern views gives another sensory jolt. Vast open meadows are spread out with far-off peaks undulating into the horizon.
Overall, highly accessible and very rewarding hike. Right now trail is in very good condition, barring the last stretch - which is few inches wide and steeply slopes downwards at certain points. Microspikes not required at any point. To search trailhead on google maps, search "Halfcamp Trailhead".
