Deception Creek — Sunday, Jul. 19, 2020

Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - West

Got a late noon start on a beautiful sunny day.  The road to the trailhead is short but has massive potholes.  Conveniently, there is a secondary parking area to the left before those potholes.  It was rough in my Audi Q5 and I would have bottomed out if I hadn't hit the angles just right.

The trail is in mostly good shape.  At about 2.6 miles there is a HUGE tree blocking the path.  I was able to climb over it, but my girlfriend handed me her pack and poles and she squeezed under it.  Teamwork!

Bugs were really bad.  Somehow I don't see any bites on myself, but my poor girlfriend got pretty badly preyed up on.  Definitely put on spray before entering the forest.  The main waterfall is pretty difficult to see.  It's impressive, but don't expect to access any perfect photo op spots.  Still, it's worth stopping to check it out for a little bit.

Total distance came out to almost exactly 11 miles to the junction and back.  Maybe there aren't any mind-boggling views, pristine alpine lakes, or or amazing cascades, but this is a really peaceful trek through a beautiful forest.
