Sunday Lake — Friday, Aug. 21, 2020

Snoqualmie Region > North Bend Area
Sunday Lake

I spent three days working on a WTA crew to improve the Sunday Lake trail. The gravel road to get to the trailhead is about 16 long miles. I used Google Maps for directions to the trailhead. Be aware that Google Maps tries to route you onto the Tolt Reservoir road. That road is gated and closed. Instead, stay on the North Fork Road SE. At about 11 miles, you will cross a wood-decked bridge. At that point, the road becomes more challenging, with lots of potholes. I drove just drove slowly. There is no sign for the trail at the trailhead, nor are there any facilities. There is a wide spot in the road that can park about a dozen vehicles. However, Google maps had the correct location, so it was nice to hear, "You have reached your destination" to confirm I was at the right place. Our crew camped just beyond the Sunday Creek crossing. During the three days, we cleared downed logs from the trail all the way from the trailhead to the lake. We removed brush along the trail and placed rock cairns at the stream crossing so that it was easier to spot where the trail continued. The stream is currently running quite low, so no wading is required. Rock-hopping skills are a plus. We saw over a dozen hikers while we were there. Most were wearing face coverings and tried to social distance. The bugs were not bad at all; just a few curious flies during the warmest part of the day.
