Trail is in good shape, it's kind of a stairmaster though.
The amount of used toilet paper is disappointing as was the diaper hanging in a tree at Snow Lake. The TP began just a short distance from the TH and it seemed that every well-defined path was lined with TP. Once you reach Snow Lake there is a sign pointing folks to the left, to the camp sites and "toilet". Even the trail leading to the toilet was lined with TP. Thank you to the trip reporter from 6 days ago who hauled out TP from Snow Lake. While we have picked up trash while hiking, we didn't even think about bringing a trash bag (or gloves), to Rainier. I guess we didn't expect to see PT on this short hike in a NP. Still learning after all these years.
In the plus category is that this is a short hike into a scenic area, with lots of pika sounding off; a pretty, blue lake and a talus cirque. We saw pika, deer and an elk or very large deer (he walked into the trees before I could get a good look).
Once past all that, and on to the "unmaintained" trail, which eventually disappears into the talus, we climbed up for nice views of the surroundings.
