Church Mountain — Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2020

North Cascades > Mount Baker Area

I didn't think the road was too bad even with the washout. Just a little rocky, the potholes were manageable, and just had to take it slow at the washout. It was only a couple of miles to the trailhead which was nice.

Started out at 10:00 AM and there were about 10 vehicles at the trailhead. Trail starts out on an old logging road then turns into many switchbacks. The switchbacks are in the forest and shaded.

The switchbacks eventually take you to the first meadow. From here the views open up and there is great views of Baker. The wildflowers are still going strong and gorgeous. There is one creek in the first meadow that is a reliable water source but dry from there to the summit.

After the trail through the meadow the trail starts switchbacking again. Because of all the views didn't really notice the elevation gain. You eventually come to a cable that you can use to get to the top. I went to the trail on the right of the cable and found the scramble fairly easy without using the cable. At the top there were awesome 360 degree views and spent time picture taking. Going down I used the cable but I think the trail to the right of the cable is easier. Spent most of my time after I reached the meadows picture taking.

Easy hike back and was back at my vehicle at 3:00 PM.
