Trailhead is just a pull-off on Cascade River Road with space for about 4 cars. The trail starts with about 1-1.5 miles on a relatively flat old forest road. Once you leave the old road, the trail gets more narrow, overgrown and some obstacles on the trail (downed trees, loose footing, etc. they were all manageable for us). We only continued on to about 2.5 miles from the trailhead before settling into a camp. We heard from two fellow hikers who were doing a thru hike from the opposite direction that beyond our camp, the trail gets more and more overgrown and there aren't any good camps further in than ours (I read another trip report indicating they camped 3.2 miles in, not sure if this is an inaccuracy in our/their distances or if the thru hikers we met just missed it). About 2 miles from the trailhead is the crossing of Middle Fork Cascade River. I crossed the log with no problems, my friend opted to scoot across on her butt-- either way will get it done. Overall this is an easy, short, uncrowded hike, we had a good time!
