All the hiking I have done over the years this is the first time I hiked this. I found the road in good condition, just a few potholes that are easily avoided and some washboarding. This is a popular hike, I arrived at 10:30 AM and there were about 20 cars and more than 30 when I returned but the trail didn't feel crowded and people were good about social distancing. Honestly, I don't mind all the people outdoors. With everything going on I think people need this to stay healthy and I got the impression that people were just wanting some normalcy in their lives.
The trail has lots of roots and rocks but is easy to follow. For some reason I had the perception when you reach Virgin Lake and the saddle Blanca Lake is right there. Wrong, you have to hike down to the lake on a steep trail. I didn't think it was bad but in wet, icy, or snowy conditions you would have to use care.
The lake lives up to the hype, beautiful! Everyone at the lake was distancing and enjoying the scenery. There was even someone paddle boarding and a few swimmers, a little cold for me. Was back at my vehicle at 2:30 PM.
