Deception Pass is always a popular spot so it was no surprise that the West Beach parking lot was pretty full on a holiday (Labor Day). We drove down to the North Beach parking lot and there were still a few spots open. This was around 12:15 pm.
With puppy in tow, we took a leisurely walk along North Beach heading west (so away from the bridge) with many stops for her to smell new things and dip her feet (and ours) into the water. The beach is long so it was easy to social distance despite the many people at the beach.
When you get to the "end" of North Beach (before hitting West Beach), we decided to go up to the North Beach Trail and hiked the trail back to the parking lot. The trail is parallel to the beach so it's nice to get the views from a higher vantage point. It was also great because we only ran into two groups of people the entire time on the trail. Also spotted a little snake along the trail.
Our pup enjoyed the hour or so we were at Deception Pass. By the time we returned to our car, it was much more crowded with cars circling the lot trying to find a vacant spot. When we were leaving the state park, we also noticed huge lines of vehicles waiting to get into the park (easily 20 cars). For comparison, we had no wait when we had entered the park.
I've been to Deception Pass many times, it never disappoints.
