Puget Sound and Islands > San Juan Islands

We are staying on Orcas island for a few days. Yesterday's weather report looked hopeful for the smoke outlook. Unfortunately the west breeze never materialized and smoke lingered. We decided to do an easy short hike to enjoy the close up sights.

Judd Cove is a 12 acre preserve. The lime kiln built in 1888 was in surprisingly good condition. At low tide you can explore the coast a short distance. The coolest find was the mollusk encrusted trees that had fallen into the water. Barnicales on Doug Fir cones. That's a odd thing.

Maddy on Judd Cove Preserve

It's very funny that you made a comment on this hike. While we were wandering, I told my wife that we were having a hikingwithlittledogs experience. We just slowed down and started noticing all the little stuff!!
