Summit Lake — Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2020

Mount Rainier Area > NW - Carbon River/Mowich

Beautiful day on the trail yesterday Oct 6.  Road getting there was very rough and slow going.  Also note that the main road to Summit Lake does make a left hand turn up and the road sign is hard to see behind tree branches and bullet holes.  The right hand sign says entering fee area.  They were not logging but alot of signs alerting one to logging activity next to the road.  Only about 15 vehicles there when we got there about 9:30 am.  Had a sunny warm day.  Sad thing is all the tp we saw at the trailhead and along the way also the large number of forgotten dog waste bags along the trail (please pack out your tp and all your pet waste to protect the wildlife). Everyone was pretty good about honoring social distancing along the trail and around the lake.  Leaves are beginning to turn red and yellow.  Saw signs of a lot of trout in the lake too.  Note: we met one truck owner going out who had a flat time but no tire jack or lug nut wrench, our would not fit but luckily for him after several other trucks passed by without stopping when we were attempting to wave them down another truck driver did stopped and was able to assist. Make sure you have a spare tire and all the equipment to change before venturing out on a rough road especially where there is no cell service -  not everyone is a good samaritan or may not have the right equipment to assist you.
