Like other reviewers mention, if you take a day off to do a fall hike, this is it. Astounding beauty and a very pleasant, well maintained, trail. The colors are unreal. A lot of berries.
The road was unpleasant but doable for any vehicle. I drive Ford Fusion and made it to the trailhead and back with no issues, although I needed to take my time. There was a fair number of cars parked along the road even during the week. Please be responsible and make sure you're not blocking the road when you park. The road past Yellow Aster Butte trailhead is for _high clearance vehicles only_. There is no place to turn around! Don't complicate your (and other's) life and don't underestimate the potholes.
Happy hiking!
