The road and trailhead were snow-free this morning, but it is shoulder season for sure up here. The dry streambeds you climb up in the summer are wet and active, with several tricky crossings across deep or swift streams, lots of water on the trail, mud, wet rocks and roots, and snow starting partway to Rachel Lake, where the air was definitely wintry. The snow is about 4-5" thick up on the ridge with lots more forecasted tomorrow for the region.
The trailhead is no longer maintained for the season, so the bathroom was out of toilet paper and you don't need to display your Forest Pass.
