Comet Falls — Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2020

Mount Rainier Area

Road/Trailhead: The road is paved all the way to the trailhead. The trailhead is small; room for about 15 cars in the parking lot. There is no bathroom at the trailhead, but there is at Longmire. You will need an America the Beautiful Pass or pay to enter the park at the entrance.

Trail: The trail is snow covered from the beginning. It is packed down well, so there was no need for microspikes or snowshoes. Poles could be useful as there are a couple spots that are a little steep and slick. The trail is easy to follow to the falls and it is a beautiful hike with all the snow.

When you cross the last log bridge before Comet Falls, make sure to take the right path leading uphill. Do not go straight towards the fallen tree even though there is a path; it does not lead to the falls.

Notes: Winter is here in the mountains. Make sure to pack proper gear and clothing, extra layers, food and a warm drink. I saw a couple of young men who were wearing t-shirts and shorts and it was 28 out. That could become dangerous quickly.
