Trip Report

Lower Big Quilcene River — Friday, Nov. 20, 2020

Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal

A nice hike that was out of the rain that day. We even had sun breaks! The trail was muddy in spots with lots of limbs and a few downed trees, one really large one. We turned around at Camp Jolly that was covered in downed trees. We saw a couple workers working on a new trail. Not sure if it was to connect to Notch pass or if it will be a bypass for the trail that looks as though it might get washed away by the river by spring.

wet red on Lower Big Quilcene River

Hello, this is one of the Gray Wolves trail workers you saw. We've heard of the large log down near Camp Jolly and a planning a trip to address the fallen timber. Do you have any photos of it or the downed trees you mentioned at Jolly? Thanks & happy hiking.

Downed trees

The large one before camp Jolly is about three feet in diameter. High enough off the ground you could crawl under but we climbed over. It snapped off at the base and landed across the trail. A couple other downed trees small. At camp Jolly it is a mess. Several large downed trees. Sorry no pictures.
