It was a beautiful blue sky day without a single cloud. Arrived around 11a and found a spot right away. LOTS of people - far more than I’ve seen on any hike or snow shoe in the last year. On the way up, the snow is fully compacted on the trail - you could get away with spikes - and you’re never alone, at times people were on our heels & there was a group right in front of us. It’s a pretty good climb, lots of uphill without a break. Once you get up near Artist Point you can get off the main trail and move away from people and play around in the fluffy, untouched powder. That was the best part! If you don’t want to go up to the viewpoint, there are other places to snow shoe down below, without the crowds and the compacted snow. But the 360 view is spectacular. It’s a pretty quick trip up and back, so it’s fun to add on some extra mileage after a 2.75 hour drive from north Seattle. People wore masks at the start of the trail but most people weren’t wearing them after about 15-20 minutes up the mountain.
