A great day hike. Waterfall fully rushing, deer, soaring birds, wildflowers. A great workout. Early payoff with the waterfall and views only 0.75 miles in.

Trail diverges from logging road (road goes straight, path goes right and upwards) and it was not obvious to me…so if you get to some really bad blow downs on the logging road part, back track to make sure you didn’t just miss the turn. The hike description references a sign but I didn’t see one.

More and more blow downs as you get farther up the trail. And eventually the snow drifts cover the switchbacks that I found it too easy to get lost, so I turned around at 3.8 miles in. Maybe later in the day I could have found boot tracks to follow but I was first up trial today and log book made it seem like not too many travelers the past couple days.

So a great hike but maybe easier in two or three weeks to get to get to trail end at lookout. Had I not been alone and had it not been a new hike for me, I might have kept going…but seemed too easy to lose the trail and get lost on the slopes.

I also hate turning back; but it's better than being on the news.

It was a bit disorienting (and very steep) to be honest when I went down that slope last year in April.

I feel solidarity with you and you made a good choice turning around early.
