Two Dollar Trail — Wednesday, Jun. 2, 2021

Puget Sound and Islands > Bellingham Area
The lake is nice, but not as impressive as the alpine lakes we're spoiled with closer to the Cascades
  • Arrived late on a Wednesday at 5:40pm and snagged one of the three spots available at the trailhead. (I assume folks park along the road when these are taken?) The gravel road is no trouble, even for a RWD sedan.
  • The trail is shaded all the way to the lake, with only one small break in the trees to look out toward the water, so not much in the way of views.
  • We took it slow (with some breaks) for one member of our party, clocking 1hr 11min to the top (1.89mi, 592ft elevation gain) and 1hr back down (172ft elevation gain).
  • We didn't circumnavigate the lake, but found a nice bench to enjoy the water and saw another family enjoying themselves at a larger area across the lake. There were only sporadic views of the lake in the quarter of the loop we walked. The lake is nice, but not as impressive as the alpine lakes we're spoiled with closer to the Cascades. We're unlikely to make a return trip.
John Brink's photo of the "falls" along the trail will perhaps set your expectations too high, as this is all we found in our early June visit
This is the best the view gets along the trail, so you're mostly enjoying the forest
