Overcast day, but just the right temperature for a hike to Lake Ann. The gate to Artist Point is closed at Heather Meadows for road repair so if Lake Ann is your desire you must park at the Heather Meadows Visitor's Center and walk up the Wild Goose Trail to the Lake Ann Trailhead. The walk to the trailhead only took about 10 minutes.
Recent rains have made the trail a little muddy in places and it is overall a rocky trail but there is much to see. The stream crossings were not difficult.
When you reach the ridge overlooking the lake (see photo below) there is one small snowfield but nothing dangerous to cross. To see the Curtis Glacier on the west side of Mt. Shuksan you do have to drop down about 150 yards from the ridge for the best view. (Again, see photo below.)
Today's numbers were a little more than 8 miles round trip and about 1,900' elevation gain. (From the trailhead you begin with a big drop in elevation before you climb up to the ridge, so you have a big gain in elevation to finish at the end.)
