Trip Report

Waptus Lake via Waptus River — Sunday, Sep. 12, 2021

Snoqualmie Region > Salmon La Sac/Teanaway
Waptus River

This was a WTA “Suggested Hike” in My Backpack. I decided to try it and was glad I did. Really nice trail.  More backpackers than day hikers, but not crowded at all. Seems like a good choice for solitude.  The trailhead also serves Cooper River and Pollalie Ridge trails.  In spite of the parking area being about 3/4 full, I only saw a handful of hiking parties.

The trail is in great shape.  Plenty of evidence that horses use this trail, but I didn’t see any today.  Mountain bike tracks too, though I don’t think they’re technically permitted.  Nothing steep on this trail, but it does roll up and down through beautiful country.  When you finally reach the River, there are lots of nice rocks/boulders for lounging or eating lunch.  You can put a lot of distance in on this trail if you’re so inclined.   I did about 12 miles round trip, but I think you can do as much as 22 miles.
