This was a perfect day for this hike. Temperature was in the 60s with rolling clouds. This first 1 mile is flat and fast going gravel road. After that you have about 1.5 miles of steep, but well maintained trail. Then you will have a trail with big rocks/boulders that you will have to walk around/over. I would not call it a scramble like in the other report.
I went up to Foggy Lake and continued on to Gothic Peak. It was a quick and easy scramble up to the peak, although I stopped on the ledge just below the peak. I had the place all to myself and got to enjoy the rolling clouds over the basin and surrounding peaks.
I will agree with the other poster regarding the huge number of offleash dogs on this trail. Some parties had multiple offleash dogs. People were dismissive, unresponsive to downright aggressive and all but one refused to leash their dogs. The best response I got was from a group of backpackers who leashed their dog and followed up with a sarcastic "have a great day".
Berries can still be found in the mid section of this trail.
