Central Cascades > Blewett Pass

We went for the larches but it looks too early for larches. We saw some starting to change to yellow but most are still green. I would give it about 2-3 more weeks before it will be more golden. What you see in the photos is all we saw for larches and barely any along the trail. Do not expect to see the amount of golden as in maple pass and carne mountain here at this point in time yet. Will have to return in early November. There were gorgeous views of the Cascade mountains where we can clearly see the rain clouds over them pouring down. Very very windy that dropped down to chill factor so that there were few flurries at one point. It was too windy so we turned back after about 3 miles in while few of the others did make it down to the 4 mile mark in where the "ripen" larches were along the trail. Definitely recommend high clearance car for the size of the potholes and tall rocks sticking out along the road in. Our car did make it but ended with good amount of pain and scratches. Road is also narrow along the cliff line going up to the parking lot so we folded in the side mirrors. There was only 1 other car at the trail besides our group before we started the hike and even at the end. You want to be alone, this is the place. Mountain bikers did pass us at one point.

The Tronsen ridge Larches are Western Larches. They turn about 3 weeks later than the Alpine Larches
