This is the second time I've been back to Minotaur Lake, both times having been in the fall. It is such a beautiful place!
My friend drove her [slightly lifted] Prius up the road, so just about anyone should be able to make it. There are potholes, of course, but that's par for the course. The one thing that can be a little nerve wracking is that the road is pretty narrow in places, especially along the trailhead that you use to get up to Lake Valhalla, so if your vehicle is wider than average you'll want to arrive early or late enough to get past that on your way to the Minotaur trailhead.
The trail itself is in good condition, which is to say it's a bit on the rocky and rooty side. It's also pretty wet up there, so be ready for that.
The side trail to the Theseus Lake overlook is easy to find and very quick, so make sure you head up there to gaze down upon that other lake.
One of the things I love best about Minotaur is that the shoreline is very wide open, which means you're not restricted to one, narrow viewpoint that you're sharing with everyone else. You can spread out, you can wander around, and you can generally explore a beautiful lake and bowl with tons of things to see.
WTA is an organization that is powered by members, and if you're reading this trip report then I know that you value the resources they provide. So if you value what you get from WTA I hope that you're a member already, and if you're not then I really encourage you to become one! It's fast, it's easy, and the return on your investment is priceless.
The trails we hike on—including this one—were likely built and maintained by WTA volunteers. Stepping beyond being a member, WTA always needs more people to put their boots on the ground with a shovel (or grub hoe, or Pulaski, or loppers) in their hand, to help maintain the places and experiences we love. No experience is necessary and fun is guaranteed!
