Started work at O dark thirty and used that as an excuse to log off at 3 today. Wife and I headed up to Franklin falls before dark to get some excercise and fresh air. Parked in the large lot (road is still open for now) and was the 2nd car there. Weather was dry and given the amount of rain we have had lately I was pleasantly surprised at how little water on the trail. Lots of puddles but only a boot sole deep.
Shout out to the trail crew for recent work as the trail itself looks great. Most likely will be snow covered in a few days so the spring will give a fresh look. Privy was locked for the season so stop at exit 38 and use the one at Dirty harry parking lot or if Lake Annette priv is open across the way it is usually accessible.
Saw 3 people coming off trail as we entered and didnt see a soul afterwards. We tromped to the falls stopping along the way a few times just to admire how quiet it was with exception to the creek roaring next to us.
******* safety note :) **************
As the weather is getting colder quickly right now when you descend the falls please use caution at the bottom. There are trees that make for a nice walkway across and there is a large flat shale rock ledge to the right that looks like a simple walkway. However once the ice hits this is going to be insanely slippery so please stay close to the logs to keep balance. Nobody wants to fall and hit their head on the rocks.
Total mileage was only 2.6 from the parking lot but it was a nice afternoon to get out and stretch the legs. Soon the falls will start to ice over and then it becomes fun :)
