Trip Report

Keechelus Ridge Snowshoe — Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022

Snoqualmie Region > Snoqualmie Pass
From Microwave Hill

Third time's a charm!  NF4832 to Price Creek, Price Creek road (officially NF 124), NF4934 to Microwave Hill.

Morning temperature started in the 20s with nice, crispy snow; only fell in four times with spikes getting up to 4934.  Having never been above that point in 2019 (when I was on the road but not at the junction), I was happy to find that 4934 is fully groomed.  The last 25min were a stroll compared to the climb up from Price Creek.

Temperatures rose quickly after 9am.  Check the wind forecasts if you're planning a trip.

Parking is, as usual, limited to five vehicles.  Marked as "high clearance" since parking is on unplowed snow; I was partially up a snow bank.

Areas in sunlight started to slush by 10am.  The groomed areas stayed solid, except on the edges.  In the forest where things were warmer overnight, I went through many times on the way down.  All apologies to the trail but I was so close to the end I didn't want to take the time to put on snowshoes; I tried to stay off to the sides as much as possible.  One set of descent tracks had left 6--8" holes Thursday or Friday.

If you plan to go, take an FS topographic map.  There are lots of turns and intersections to navigate.

(will update with more pictures and distance/elevation)
