Looking for a quick half day adventure with huge pay-off, Oxbow Loop is your answer. Although I have been here several times I have never seen the lake frozen so that was worth checking out. The road is plowed and cleared all the way to the Middle Fork parking lot so no worries driving half way down the valley to this hike. Outhouses clean and stocked.
There was a couple of stretches of old snow (just an inch or so deep), right before the outlet bridge and a few branches to step over but apart from that the trail is in good shape. Winter has had its way and there are quite a few trees that have come down including sadly a couple of large ones on the south side edge of the pond. But the magic is still here. The moss still drips from the trees, and the views up to the mountains newly refreshed with snow were stunning. After a soul restoring slow two mile loop we then drove down to the middle fork trail head parking area enjoying the scenery along the way. Always a great add on.
