This was my second time at Oyster Dome, both times for a WTA work party. I'd driven the dirt road to Samish Overlook the first time and, although mostly alright with just small potholes, there was one section of the road that was steep and full at potholes where my (old, low clearance, and two-wheel drive) car had skidded a bit. I think if you drive on the left side on that section when heading in you can pass by ok, but I wasn't feeling too eager to try it agin. So I parked on the Chuckanut Drive around 7:30am and walked up the 2 miles to Samish Overlook, which took me about 45 minutes. There was only one other car at the time but room for maybe a dozen along the side of the road. There is one viewpoint between Chukanut and the Samish Overlook and it was clear enough to see a fair ways.
We ended up driving further up a locked fire road from Samish Overlook and then hiking in to the main Oyster Dome trail where we spent the day fixing a switchback. At the end of the day, we hiked back to the cars with the tools. I then backtracked along the trails to descend to my car via the Oyster Dome overlook. By that time, it was drizzling and the clouds had rolled in so I couldn't see much at the overlook. But the forest walk was still beautiful and peaceful. I still met several groups hiking up at around 4pm. Nice that the days are getting longer.

Thanks for maintaining the switchbacks. They are a beautiful work of trails.
