Elliott Bay Trail — Saturday, Apr. 9, 2022

Puget Sound and Islands > Seattle-Tacoma Area
Looking into Elliott Bay

Elliott Bay Trail is a paved walking trail that runs along the coastal region of the bay waters, being easily accessible for jogging and biking in the downtown Seattle region. The trailhead is located near a parking lot at the entrance to the tall grain terminal, with ships passing by throughout the day. The bay trails offer a simple walk through wide open grass areas, which are particularly enjoyable during the bright sunny weather. The coastal area where the water meets the trails are very rocky and mostly empty, where various birds seem to sit around. The well-maintained walking paths are ideal for causal walks or bringing pets along, with a good amount of people seen walking around the trails during the daytime. At a middle section of the trail is a pier along the bay's coast, however it is currently closed to all visitors due to signs that vaguely warn of a "safety hazard."

As a semi-urban trail in Seattle, the hiking path has adequate amenities of restrooms, water fountains, and benches for everyone within the Centennial Park region. The trails also connect to other nearby trail systems at Myrtle Edwards Park and other piers at the waterfront as the trail is quite lengthy for miles - following along the coast. The trails are separated between the walking path and biking path, although people were mostly walking around the path with not many bikers seen at the trail system. The trail and park area is very wide open with grassy areas unobstructed by trees, meaning that the trails are bright and sunny throughout the daytime. Looking across the water from the trail provides many good views into the distant downtown Alki Beach and the abundant residential areas since the trails are a part of the city. In the middle of spring, the skies are mostly clear with consistent sunny and warm weather throughout the day.
