To figure out the best route for us, I used the WTA trail map and some hiking book maps, but I also found the map on the Issaquah city website helpful for navigating all the connecting trails and planning for future adventures in this area --> issaquahwa.gov/742/Trails
We took the High School trail after we parked along 2nd Ave SE. The little parking lot for the trailhead was full before 9:30am. The trail is well marked. We hit a lucky clear spring day and saw some flowers in bloom.
Trail was not too busy and was wide enough for easy people-passing most of the time. We arrived at the point just before noon, taking our time for water breaks, some trail poetry (April is National Poetry Month!), and collecting negative ions from the creek waterfall. Plenty of paragliders arrived at the point too and it was a treat to watch them glide off the mountain and catch thermals with the birds.
Toilets were at the summit too, and very fragrant. Wearing a mask helped. We also appreciated seeing the rusty remains of a lawn mower next to the trail. Good for a chuckle and speculations of its origins. Be on the lookout!
Stopped at Boehm's on the way home for a post-hike treat. Will be back to this area very soon.
