I’m not sure why this trail plays second fiddle to others in Grand Coulee. It climbs high and offers lovely views of Steamboat Rock and Banks Lake, while providing an intimacy that isn’t available around the lakes. It also had the best wildflowers we saw on our trip to the Columbia Basin. These are peaking right now — all the faves, from balsamroot and lupine to shooting stars and bitterroot.
We didn’t see a soul as we climbed up the draw to the top of the coulee and wandered about. Such a pleasant afternoon!
