Discovery Park Loop Trail, Discovery Park Beach and Highlands Loop — Sunday, May. 29, 2022

Puget Sound and Islands > Seattle-Tacoma Area
Lupines!

I met up with an old high school friend visiting Seattle for the long weekend. We met at the North lot at around 10 am. The lot was about half full, so not too busy.

We started off taking the North Beach Trail and took that around to the lighthouse. There were many parts of the trail that were very muddy and also a few fallen trees at one part that we had to climb over. We stopped at the North Beach along the way and saw a lone sea lion resting on top of a rock. The tide was very low.

When we got to the lighthouse, we walked along the beach for a bit before taking the South Beach Trail that met up with the Loop Trail. Lupines are in fresh bloom right now and we saw a lot of them at of the viewing points along the South Beach Trail. When we got to the open field, we decided to take the trail that cut through the middle instead of following the rest of the Loop Trail down to the south end. We walked by the Ft. Lawton old buildings and observatory along Oregon Ave and took Kansas Ave all the back to the North lot. The lot was a little bit busier by the time we got back at 12pm, but still plenty of parking to go around.

We were lucky to have gone in the morning since there was a huge downpour around 1-2pm.
