Explored the trails at the Shadow Lake Nature Preserve during a two hour escape from the city. I did make a reservation beforehand as requested. Highlight of the boardwalk trail was the plant signs which show the native plants in both English and Lushootseed, as well as the peat moss. There were quite a bit of mosquitoes on this one, and I moved fast so as not to get bit.
You drive a little further down the road to get to the second trailhead. I meandered through the owl, wetlands, and woods trails. There is a little native plant garden at the end of the owl trail. I would say the woods trail was the most interesting as there were some lovely ferns welcoming me. I did not see many wild animals, just some birds. There was nothing particularly astonishing, but it was a nice way to spend some time in the woods without committing to a long trip anywhere.
