Devil's Backbone, Stormy Mountain Summit — Friday, May. 31, 2024

Central Cascades > Entiat Mountains/Lake Chelan
Glacier Peak from Stormy summit

Beautiful views up on Stormy Mountain today! I came from the Entiat River side, and the road is snow free all the way to the trailhead. I took the Mud Creek road off of the Entiat River Road in Ardenvoir. Mud Creek Road is paved for a while, and then a good dirt road. I could of driven all the way to the trailhead in my Subaru, but because I had my motorcycle on the back, I parked the car and took that up to the summit. There are a few drop offs on the road up high, so beware of that.

I parked the bike at the trailhead, and headed up the trail. Trail is snow free, with a couple of annoying blowdowns. Stormy has some awesome views. So many mountains could be seen. Many of them the top 100 peaks in Washington.  2.7 miles RT with 1079 ft gain

After getting back to the trailhead, I drove back to a nice parking area at the base of Baldy Mountain. It is all off trail up to the summit. Mostly it was weaving in and out of blowdowns, brush, and closely grown trees. The last part involves some route finding and some scrambling. Some good views from up at the top of Baldy too. It was cool to look over at the higher Stormy Mountain. Stormy is taller, and has the better views, but Baldy is more rugged. 1 mile RT with 545 ft gain.

GPS track below in red. The road to the trailhead is in green
