Took advantage of the change of weather this weekend. Since I have never hiked this trail, decided today would be the day. I can't believe that after working at Lake Crescent Lodge for 4 summers in college and 1 summer as a volunteer backcountry ranger on 7 Lakes Basin Loop, I had never hiked this trail.
The East Lake Road parking lot was pretty full when I arrived at 11:17 and cars parked along the road, up past the bridge when I returned. The bathroom was open, and clean, toilet paper was fully stocked but the hand-sanitizer was empty.
With partly cloudy skies and warmer temps, the air was a bit humid making the bugs a little bit of a bother. Though the wind did help with the bug issue (and the handheld Thermacell) I know from experience they will only get worse as the summer progresses.
So many people having a lot of fun. It was great to hear the squeals and laughter of joy. Truly felt like a joyous summer day.
Lot's of people on the trail today. I'm not sure if other hikers on this trail notice this, but several bike riders did not warn pedestrians when they were coming up from behind. Just a quick warning of; "On your left/right." would have been greatly appreciated several times today.
Something to note for those coming from Kitsap, there is a lot of road construction between the west side of the Hood Canal Bridge to Sequim. Hwy 19 to Port Townsend and Chimmicum is closed and there is a temporary stop light at the Port Townsend/Quilcene junction. I suggest getting an early start, put on your favorite tunes and enjoy the scenery.
This was a fun day. 10 out of 10 would do again.

Thank you for the heads up about the road construction. I’m heading out that way next week so that is very helpful to know!

I am sorry to say that you may have missed the days when this actually was a trail, in the sense that it was dirt roadbed and single track trail for the whole way. While still beautiful, it now has all the charm of walking down the middle of I-90.
