French Cabin Mountain, French Cabin Creek, Thomas Mountain & Domerie Divide Trail — Sunday, Jun. 9, 2024

Snoqualmie Region > Salmon La Sac/Teanaway
French Cabin Mountain viewed from French Kiss

I looped counter-clockwise via the Domerie Divide/Peak Trails and Kachess Ridge Trail, summiting Thomas Mountain, French Cabin South Peak, French Cabin North Peak, French Kiss, and French Cabin Mountain (16 miles, 6000 ft gain, 7am-4pm).

There were patches of snow between Para Point (point 4941') and Thomas Mountain up to 2 feet deep. Not much of a problem there. The snow was deeper and more frequent coming towards French Cabin South Peak, and the east-west traverse from there to French Cabin Mountain was mostly in snow, sometimes several feet deep. It was fairly solidified in the morning but mushy enough by noon for post-holing. The rock scramble up to French Cabin Mountain was snow-free (all the summits were). You get to enjoy some loose scree instead. I went up along the west side of the south ridge, staying fairly close to the rock cliffs that marked the ridge.

The trails themselves were in good shape, with just occasional blowdowns. There are currently many stream crossings on the portion that runs alongside Silver Creek. They were all doable but often required finding some good logs or a leap of faith. On the upside, plenty of water sources for a long day out.

Saw some fairly fresh-looking bear scat near the summit of French Cabin North Peak.
